Targeted Blood Brain Barrier Opening Using Focused Ultrasound to Enable Spatially Precise CNS Drug Delivery Without Molecular Re-Engineering
1:00 pm
- Demonstrating transient and region-specific BBB opening using microbubble-mediated focused ultrasound with reproducible safety across 300+ patients
- Enabling localized delivery of biologics, oligonucleotides and gene therapies with preserved molecular integrity and enhanced target engagement
- Quantifying biodistribution shifts and pharmacodynamic effects following ultrasound-mediated BBB modulation in oncology and neurodegeneration
- Positioning focused ultrasound within the broader CNS delivery toolkit alongside intrathecal dosing and receptor-mediated transport approaches

Focused Ultrasound vs Brain Shuttles – Comparing Clinical Scalability for BBB Penetration
9:00 am
Enabling the direct comparison between focused ultrasound-mediated BBB opening and systemic brain shuttle approaches, examining the clinical viability, scalability, and commercial reality of each strategy.
This workshop will gather experts to:
- Evaluate clinical evidence and patient safety data for focused ultrasound BBB disruption versus systemic TfR1 shuttles to determine which approach delivers superior therapeutic outcomes with acceptable risk profiles
- Compare capital equipment requirements, procedure complexity, and reimbursement pathways for FUS against manufacturing scalability and cost-of-goods for antibody shuttles to assess commercial viability
- Explore combination strategies where FUS-enhanced delivery works synergistically with brain shuttles to achieve therapeutic concentrations in deep brain structures unreachable by either approach alone
